The RCS District is pleased to announce that it will be sending two high school student musicians to perform at the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Conference All-State Festival. The adjudication will give them feedback on their performance as well as qualify these students for an honor ensemble at the county and state levels. The festival is a competition where students get evaluated on their single performance of a solo. After students are selected, they go on to participate in three intensive rehearsal sessions to prepare for a concert, which will be held Nov. This year, NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association) Solo Festival went virtual. From Centereach High School, junior Madison McNally was chosen for the All-State Mixed Chorus and junior Julia Prigl was chosen for the All-State Symphony Orchestra. In order to be selected for the NYSCAME, 11th and 12th graders must score among the top NYSCAME musicians across the county. From Newfield High School, senior Tyler Berns was chosen for the All-State Symphonic Band, and juniors Bilal Hafeez and Alyssa Jordan were named All-State Mixed Chorus. “They’re both absolutely wonderful accomplishments and we’re real proud of the kids.” “We’re very proud of our kids that are participating both at county level and the state level,” said Izzet Mergen, director of fine and performing arts at Northport-East Northport Schools. In addition, a total of 23 students, including the 12 selected for All-State, have been selected for the 2017 NYSCAME All-County music festival.
